hi most likely rats cos we have the same problems, we have to rat runs dug under each end of the run we`ve put concrete blocks over the holes and bricks around the inside of the run but they just dig round them
think it will have to be either poison(well out of the way of the chickens) or traps but or coop is also near marsh/woods so don`t think i can get rid of them altogether, let me know if you have any joy getting rid of them.

i use bog standard rats traps - metal or wood; plastic ones have broken/malfunctioned on me. also, i put something over them so birds don't kill themselves on them. there are pheasants on my allotment, but i don't fancy catching a pigeon no matter how much a foe they are.

Bog standard metal snap traps, baited with ham, or chocolate or chook feed!  Placed at the entrances to the tunnels and so far, caught in both traps almost every night.
OH saw 5 or 6 in the shed last night tho, and has finally realised that it IS them or us - so I'm off to buy poison at lunchtime, will put it in their tunnels away from our chooks and dawgs...
Good luck with the trapping :)

Guns not poison.
Saves vets bills but have to be accurate to be fair.
PCP air rifle has punch but looking at a Crossman King Ratcatcher for fast pointability with a laser sight.
Eventually my partner has agreed something needs doing when she has seen the damage caused.
Now retired from the day job and working hard on my smallholding.

Sounds like a good plan and to be fair I was a pretty good shot in my day but I haven't got time to spend hanging around waiting for the little blighters to pop up - have baited directly into their tunnels and it has worked a treat - left it a few days so they don't get too used to it and baited again - not seen or heard one since, even the outside PIR light is taking a break  :tongue2:
