onion pests
« on: November 15, 2009, 17:50 »
Finally got my onions, shallots and garlic from Unwins :D and planted them today in the sun. Raised bed was well drained after the rain and soil was luvverly. They've gone in with the hardy peas and broad beans that are just up and looking good.
I have protected this large bed from cats, chickens, birds squirrels etc. with chicken wire and netting but have a sneaking feeling that MICE like to nibble onions? Please can anyone tell me whether I'm right and what other pests might I expect?

I would say mice are more likely to go after the peas and beans rather than the onions. I think you`ve done just about all you can to protect the crops. You could, however set a couple of mouse traps if you are worried about them. :D
