Potatoes and Boring insects
« on: November 12, 2009, 17:24 »
Can anyone recommend varieties of potato, early and main, that are least likely to be attacked by boring insects and Slugs.   My experience is Winston - bad, Charlotte -good.  Is there anything one can do to limit this type of damage.  Any help appreciated.

If you look at the Potato results thread I'm sure there will be some feedback on this point.

Nematodes applied in the Spring are very good at preventing the underground slugs which tunnel into spuds but are expensive.

However it's worth trying to identify what is causing the damage before splashing out as I don't think nematodes are effective against things such as wireworm.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...
