Forage Pea Green Manure
« on: October 31, 2009, 20:59 »
Hi Everyone

Does anyone out there have any experience of successfully growing Forage Pea?

I recently purchased some seeds/peas to sow after my potatoes to improve the soil for Brassicas next year.

The pack arrived with instructions on how deep to sow and how wide the rows should be but NOT the space between each pea?? When I queried this with the supplier he/she said they would forward my email to their vegetable expert?? 4 days later am still waiting and the clock is ticking as this crop should be sown by November.

I dont want to waste the peas I have by setting the spacing too small nor do I want to miss ground I should have covered ............. anyway I think you will get my drift.

The instructions on the packet are as follows:

Sowing Depth Drill at 7cm in rows 15 - 20 cm apart.

The expected height of the pea is 1 metre.

I have already sown 3 rows at 4inch deep with a spacing of 4inches but I have just made an educated guess. The rows are 15cm apart.

Can anyone help before November is gone? I have a lot more peas left to sow.

Thanks for taking the time to read this.
