2 of my 10 chickens wont lay in nest boxes

the 2 girls just wont lay in the nest boxes in the coop, but unerneath the coop in the run, i have now blocked this off, but does anyone know why they do this

I have had 4 new chickens since June and Lily goes to extraordinary lengths to lay in a particular patch of border she's a brilliant layer and has hardly missed a day I have tried everything to persuade her to lay in the warm comfy henhouse. I even have a curtain up to cover the nestboxes to keep it really dark but she always squeezes out somewhere and then calls to be let back into the run when she's laid her egg! I've tried putting her on the nest several times when she obviously is trying to lay but no success so far. The other 3 are quite happy to lay inside and my 2 old hens got the hang of it very quickly. Lily is just different i think!

So far I have 3 layers and 2 use the same nest box but Lily (- is it something in the name?) insists on laying next to the perch at the back of the coop - think she thinks the perch edge is the edge of the nest box - bless. They also took ages to lay in the coop/shelter we built in the run which isn't near the coop. They wanted out t o the coop and held in the egg until I came home from work and let them out free ranging! They are funny little things - but that's why we love 'em!!

have you tried dummy eggs to show them where to lay?

Are you sure there are no mites in the boxes?

Perhaps there is no room left in the nest boxes when they need to lay

All of my 5 princesses like to lay in the same nest box one after the other.....it looks like a real birds nest when finished with 5 eggs every day.
They must walk round crossed legged untill it's there turn

most of mine that are laying use all 5 nest boxes but my 4 light sussex seem to perfer the shelve that catches the poo from the perches
