Just picked the first of next year's purple sprouters - amongst a cloud of whitefly that should have been killed by frost by now. >:(
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

"next year's purple sprouters"  ??? why are you picking next year's, mine are still lush and green, no sign at all of anything remotely purple, your living in the wrong part of the country.

I'm not moving to the frozen tundra that is Blackpool!

At least I spotted them before they turned yellow!

Just 2 out of the 20 PSB, the rest and the WSB are fine.

Hate to say this, but with this country its not the north/south divide for weather, but east/west :tongue2:.  Those of you on the eastern side of the country got tons of white stuff that's called snow :(, whereas, we on the western side get one of two types of weather rain or sun :).  I've hardly seen any snow for years :(.  And how come most people head for Cornwall for their holidays - oh yes, the sun and tropical climate :D.

I agree.

Being located on the Gloucestershire/Wiltshire border, except for Jan/Feb 2009 I really can't remember a prolonged spell of snow and frost. Was it 1981?
This is why when I see "replies" to topics implying that frost is required for this and that to encourage growth?? I'm thinking is it really worth the time, space and money attempting to grow these type of fruit and veg? Thankfully, the requirement of frost is mostly a myth. Usually, fruit and veg manage quite nicely and fulfil their expectations without Jack Frost's help.

Chatting to one of the old boys today and he was bemoaning the lack of a good long cold spell these days. Not like in his day when it stayed below freezing for days on end he reckoned it was needed to kill off pests and the like. He also mentioned how many leaves were still on the trees this late in the year. He has a point as a kid I don't remember any leaves being still on trees as bonfire night approached, it was colder to.
