Some project, fair doos....

A question for George though, if you don't mind...

What advantage does George think his greenhouse-on-rails will have over an ordinary one, if any?
I know it will move, but how is that easier, or better,  than removing  plants from a static greenhouse and planting them outside?

Excuse me if I appear confused, the chances are that I am.

well, at least the soil in the greenhouse borders wouldn't get stale if they move each year

I suppose you could start something under cover then after alittle while move it along to the next bedand plant something else..no root disturbance  Just a thought

That is one heck of a greenhouse.

You say he's going to erect another greenhouse on the site of the pile of rubble. Does George grow anything outdoors, or is it all under protection?

He does grow a lot of stuff under cover (people keep giving him greenhouses) he's mainly into flowers and superb tomatoes. He does have another plot with a lot of veg on it and not quite so much debris! As our waiting list starts to get longer he is now under pressure to clean up his act!

NigelB: I have copied out this question and will sollicit an answer! ::)
mumodstig: you're probablt right!

He was hard at it in the cold and rain today! I didn't stay long.

Well, I've had a word, and he explained.
He normally grows chrsants in pots and then moves them, but if they're in the ground they are easier to water and will stand being forgotten a couple of times. So push the greenhouse down and they're growing ouside!
Also, his example, plant first early spuds in February with a fleece, move the house at a suitable time, plant the other side, and by the time you've cropped the spuds you can start again!
He say he'll write an explanation himself!

If George screws a couple of seats inside he will be able to plant and pick as the greenhouse is moving. :)

I`ll get my coat. :)

George has been painting all day! He said a sudden gust of wind actually moved the greenhouse along a foot, so he had to rig up some buffers quick! :D
he's toying with the idea of one day extending the track by another greenhouse length! ??? Maybe next year.
He still saying he wants to write a full, and convincing expanation!
George is not computer literate.

I arrived at 9:30am George was hard at it then; this pic was taken at 4:00pm as I was leaving; still at it!

Oh yes! All his various facillities have been prepared to accept plants as and when he sees fit!
I've been eating the last of his leek crop, and very good they were too!

Hi Fallowfield,
where does George get his energy from?
If he could just pass on his secret I'll be greatfull.
Is it from all the good vibes of the people who see his efforts?

We'd all like to know that! He's seventyish, and diabetic!

Here's a slide show of George with weight-lifters belt moving the greenhouse along the track. There is a clock in the pictures to show it only took a couple of minutes!
I took these this morning!

... That's without the glass though, isn't it?

Tell George I wish him the best.... and that he should wear a safety hat in case he gets a glass shower when he tries it for real....

Got a funny feeling George isn't a safety hat kind of person!!
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!

Too wet for painting today, so George was at work in his poly tunnel.
this is the view from the tunnel door, yes it has a door fitted because George says its better than bending down to undo zips!
