To summarise:- basically all that involved is a fire under a 25 gallon drum containing water and compost sitting on something to keep it out of the water with a not quite airtight top on the barrel, until its hot enough to sterilise it!
After you've mastered that you add luxuries like a flue pipe and, of course, somewhere to warm your pasties!

In contrast this is my plot today ;)

Are those potato ridges I see?

Good clean looking soil  ;)

All ready for planting after Ostara!
It's excellent soil; medium loam, so they tell me!

I think someone asked the question, "Where does George grow anything?"
Well here is just a part of it! Out of shot to the right is the "shed" and I'm stood at the railed greenhouse!
I've eaten some of his leeks with my dinner tonight after a day on the plot, and very good they were too! :D

Been away from the plot for a few days with a painful hip caused by wheelbarrowing free breeze block to my lottie!
But checked on George today, and it looks as though there's some danger of him finishing the tracked greenhouse!
He thinks he'll be testing it later today; should be quite frightening when he gets a ton of glass in it!

I was surprised he was allowed his 'shed' let alone all the metal work for that greenhouse  doesn't anybody complain about it all?

and to think I had to supply plans about my shed, size, position etc to the comittee and as I've just been given a new one they even came round with a ruler to make sure my slabs for the base were at least the regulation 3ft away from any path.  :nowink:

A market gardener in Maine, USA uses that idea but his isn't so heavily metaled and he uses the double ridged plastic rather than glass, otherwise he'd never be able to move it. I suspect George is planning for hurricanes  :D

Once he gets it moving - I'm worried how it will ever stop, without shaking all the glass out.  It will be like stopping a train  ...

Sorry to hear about your hip. Thanks for keeping us updated. I have quite a different view of this than anyone who has to ask for permission from an allotment committee. My only reservation is the potential problem of hail. Having seen hailstones the size of ping pong balls rip through my tent, I'm very alert to the potential damage hail can wreak. Other than that, I think it's fantastic.

Yes but a big bowl of his prize tomatoes goes a long way, as does the fact that if you need a bit of timber or glass etc, George is the man! ;)

Very rare we get hailstones that size Snoop, but George would be quite philosophical about it! 8)
