not laying?
« on: October 17, 2009, 18:47 »
My 3 light sussex will be a year old in Nov 2 of them have been laying since i got them but Janet isnt?  Would there be any reason for this?  Now i dont know if this has any significance but her comb is smaller and flops over where the other 2 have bright red combs which are upright? Shes in good health and eats and drinks just as the others do she just doesnt go into the coup and lay like the other 2??

sorry if this seems like a daft question but im new to all this...

thanks

I had a girl (a D'anver) that took 18 months to come into lay   and another that never did :(

What food do they have? Is there oyster shell down all the time for them?

What treats do you give?

Other things that will effect laying are moulting & going broody, as she done either of those recently?

Egg production will slow down now anyway due to less light so you may have to wait till next year  ??? :(

They have pellets and mixed corn......a constant supply of oyster shell, treats..spinach leaves, grapes which they near mug me for, and every other day they will get corn on the cob, oooh and i make them some porrige with pellets mixed in on a cold morning.  I do go worm collecting every other day with my 2yr old son...just a bit strange that the other 2 are laying and shes not.  Im not fussed if she doesnt lay im just curious as to why?
she's never been broody since i had her and shes not moulting?

Personally I'd knock the corn on the cobs on the head fro a while, greens are ok and the worms but just layers during the day and then a handful of mixed corn in the evening :)

She might be being a bit more greedy with the treats than the other two :)

Try the above for a week or two with some poultry drink in the water, and see if there is any improvement :)
