Growers eating layers...layers eating growers!!
« on: October 16, 2009, 21:45 »
Why are they eating each others pellets???

Will there be any adverse side-effects?

They all seem happy and well - yet this has been going on for some time....they just seem to swap!! ???

I gave in on the growers pellets once they were free ranging together for that very reason. Daft chooks  ::) I had some left over chick crumbs so thought I'd just throw them in a bowl for the chooks, they woolfed them down and refused to eat pellets the next morning hoping for more!

just remember though that if your layers are eating growers that has anti cocci in then you shouldn't eat their eggs.
Staffies are softer than you think.

If it is any consolation I used to keep the layers pellets in a sack in one of those plastic dustbins with the locking handles, then had to start putting bricks on top when China found out how to open it, then had to move it into the shed, and now have to padlock the shed as even with a bent nail through the lock she could get in there to get to them....... China is a Boxer Dog and as far as I know has never laid any eggs!

I have the opposite problem of chickens coming in the house (usually it is my amberlink who is the ring leader), picking up the dogs dry feed and plonking it in the dogs water bowl. They then return later when they are soft and able to eat them
