They can look spooky whilst flying,   as Shaun said, it`s the reflective eyes that do it.
Pity you used a digital camera, I'd have loved to see the girl in Boots trying to print these photos right way up!

Having just recently moved house they are living in an aviary whilst the garage is being converted into a "Bat Flight" complete with day/night lighting reversal and batcam.  :)

Wow, you sure love your bats to dedicate the garage to them. Mine is full of so much 'stuff' that we can't get either of the cars in. We just get the little brown bats that hunt and control all the nasty mosquitoes and bugs out here. Have been meaning for years to build  bat houses for them to encourage the little sweeties. Had a few flying in the house from the open ceiling when we did living room reno last year. Got a good laugh watching my daughter try to catch them with the fishing net. They are FAST!

Wow, Parrot, what beautiful animals!  How much poo do they produce?

Where in South Wales are you, just out of interest?

Hi Parrot,  Your bats are great.   I have seen one or two bats flying at the end of my garden and as you are in the same neck of the woods I thought you might be able to hazard a guess at what sort of bats they might be and if there is anything I can do to encourage them,in additon to bat boxes.

Years ago I watced a neighbour cut down two huge conifers because the studpid woman wa afraid of the bats in them.  I didn't know at the time it was illegal or I would have rported her, so i figure I owe them something.
Thanks.

I'd seriously like to encourage bats on my lotty...what should I build and where should I put it?

(I've done it for the lacewings, bees and ladybirds...so I can do it for bats) :)

Do you need a licence or any specific training to keep them?

They look adorable by the way.

What size were the bats you saw?     Odds on favourite would be pipestrelles if tiny, and noctules if larger.   If you want to get involved in bat conservation,  join the Carmarthenshire bat group.   Last meeting was a great success and we recorded 6 species including Daubenton`s bat.  :)

Bat boxes are the favourite option.   They vary from the simplest of roosts to proper hiberniculums.   An interesting supplier is www.alanaecology.com

Thanks.    No license needed for this species, Rousettus aegyptiacus the Egyptian fruit bat.
