Potatoes
« on: October 14, 2009, 10:25 »
Morning all,
this probably sounds stupid, but about a month ago I had bought some organic spuds to eat and some of them started to sprout so I cut some, stuck them in the fridge and then planted them out in our new allotment.
Am I being too optimistic or is there a small chance I might get some spuds for Christmas.
Any advice would be great thankyou. :nowink:
if you want to be happy for a short time, get drunk; happy for a long time, fall in love; happy for ever, take up gardening

As far as I know, your last planting was August for Christmas spuds.

I am sure one of the more knowledgable among us will be along shortly though!

You never know though... maybe you will get lucky, and if not a Christmas Harvest, maybe lots of Potato Salad in the new year :D

Keep the plants protected from frost though. You may get some new potato-sized ones in tie for Christmas.. :)

Hi scabs,I have just gone out and bought a mini fleece polytunnel, should I wait to see if spuds sprout? or put fleece over now.Weather in cornwall has been glorious and is meant to be great up until next mon no sign of any frost .
Cheers Sid.

If they haven't come up in the 4 weeks they've been in the ground, they may not do.

At least until next year!
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?
