How long should i keep muscov ducks in for
« on: October 07, 2009, 08:34 »
Hi, i have just got my muscovy ducks, and the breeders said they should be confined in their house for 2 days before i let them out.  they have a chicken house 1.2m by 1 m i wasnt sure if this was big enough to confine them for so long. they are in my garden with enclosed fence panels and i am going to give them a smaller run area i wasnt going put a roof on it how high should, it be just to give my cats some space whilst they get used to each other. could i let them out an hour before dusk tonight or should i just leave them be.

Hi Md

Are their wings clipped ?

Muscovies are good flyers and will go, I think if they are not clipped I would be tempted to do so then they should be fine to go out :)

I would be very hesitant to let them out if they aren't clipped :)

Sarah :)

Edit : So long as they only have one wing clipped that is :)

thanks, the ducks are out now in their enclosed area and seem quite happy. they have been fed mixed corn up to now is this ok or should they have special food. also can you feed them soe bread or not, any other treats they might like. thanks for your help

They will be fine on corn, muscovies are more of a grazing bird to be honest like a goose so plenty of grass is the key :)
As for treats mealworms, fruit, bread in water all the usual stuff really :)
