Hi all
Found some red mites in the girls coop last thursday, hoovered & cleaned out with jeyes, sprayed poultry shield and powdered with the barrier mite powder (all we had, I'm waiting on some diatom which I've ordered but still hasn't turned up). Also filled in cracks with decorators caulk but every day I check and there are still some in there - not many mind but around 10 or so each time I check (that I can see anyway). I've been cleaning & spraying the coop out every day since then and even 'painted' inside the coop with barrier mite powder which i mixed into a liquid.
Do they take a while to die with the poultry shield? Just concerned as we both work full time so by the time we get home we only have about an hour before its dark and so can't give the coop a complete wash out each night but just spray poultry shield, powder and change all the bedding.
Am hoping the diatom comes before the weekend so on saturday i can thoroughly scrub the coop again with jeyes, poultry shield & paint the diatom into any cracks which are left also fill in any remaining gaps with caulk. Is there anything else I need to do other than powder the girls of course?
The first night we put the girls in the shed as the coop was still wet by bedtime, should I do this until the weekend or will this just stress them out more? Although there doesn't seem to be loads of mites in the coop they are obviously still getting bitten by some and I'm worried it will make them ill.
Also is there anything I can give them in the meantime, I've heard people talking on here about poultry spice, should I get some of that for them?
Sorry to go on, seems like I'm always posting on here about something or another!
