some advice about dory please
« on: October 04, 2009, 18:52 »
Hi everyone, yesterday when i was hugging dory on my knee her crop felt strange....like a water balloon! thought it may be sour crop, but she showed no other signs of illness. She was eating, drinking, running around with the others ,he breath did not smell and she was generally looking interrested as usual. This morning her crop felt empty, and i felt stupid, thought i had over reacted and worried needlessly. She has been ok most of the day, but this afternoon she has been stood by herself, choosing to be in the run by herself, instead of in the garden. She is fluffed up, tail down and her crop is large and feels like a water balloon again :( she , along with the rest of them are 5days into a baytril course, so i cant understand why this has happened. Her breath still dosent smell so im reluctant to make her sick. i have offered her natural bio yoghurt , she has had a bit, but not much...what should i do please?

Baytril will not have any effect on sour crop I'm afraid.

You would need an antifungal medication like Nystatin.

:(  I would be tempted to make her sick and give a bit of bio yoghurt again and make sure she only has pellets for a while.

Could it be that she has another problem (soft egg ?) and the crop is just coincidence ?

Aw she sounds poorly!! Hope she is ok soon! Think I would be making her sick to....or checking for an egg. One of mine behaved like that when egg bound.  :( :( :(

Lizzie isn't well :(
I was hoping to go and see her today but she really isn't good and doesn't want me to get her nasty germs  So I shall go annoy her once she is better  :tongue2:

She has told me I can pass on the news about Dory though :)

It would appear that Dory did have sour crop, the vet made her sick then flushed out her crop and made her sick again. With some meds and some of Lizzies TLC she'll be up to her usual tricks in no time at all :D

Another snippet of info Lizzie has asked me to pass on from the vets, apparently we should all plant wormwood (?) in our gardens as it has huge anti fungal and anti parasite properties in it :)

Thanks from Lizzie for all the messages I have passed them all on :)

Take Care All

Sarah :)

If you plant wormwood do not plant by any plants that you care about as it has a natural growth inhibitor that can affect other plants.
Experience is what you get when you didn't get what you wanted!!

thought wormwood was used to make absinthe which caused brain damage and was banned....dont let the chucks have a still hidden in the coop....

good for digestion and worms though.

Poor Lizzie hope she's feeling better soon- sour crop isn't catching is it?
Glad that Dory is on the mend :)
I've never heard of wormwood ::) Is it a plant?
We have 17 chickens, 3 quail, 2 dogs, 3 cats and that's enough (for this week)
