Saving bean seeds
« on: October 04, 2009, 11:16 »
I have grown French Climbing Beans - Cobra - this year with great success.  I want to save some seeds for next year.  Do I leave the pods on the plants to go yellow - as some of them are - or do I pick them green and dry them off indoors?

I always leave them on to go yellow - today just collected 70 odd to store ready for next year. Others may disagree - but have always done it like that
cheers
small, Welsh and almost certainly bonkers, but can be tamed with Talisker, if required

Thanks Plum Crumble, I will give them a bit longer.  But I need the plants out by the end of the month as my garlic are going in there. javascript:replaceText('%20:)',%20document.forms.postmodify.message);

Just make sure you dry em really well before storing in jam jar (for example), otherwise they'll go mouldy.

Beware cross-pollination as well. I've been saving climbing purple French bean seed for a few years now and they are not what they started out as!

I'm getting fresh seed next year.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?
