Timberguard
« on: September 30, 2009, 19:32 »
Has anyone ever heard of, or used 'Timberguard'?  It is a wood preservative and termite killer.  It is supposedly non-toxic (to us and the chooks) and will kill bugs and mould!!  I am away on business at the moment and it has been recommended by the folks I'm with.

With a long lasting protection claim, I was wondering if it would act as a preventative sheild for the dreaded Red Mites!!

I look forward to the replies........ :wacko:

I would say 99.9% no it will not protect against Red Mite.

Red Mite live in the crack in your Coop be it wood or plastic.

One of the common ways to kill mite is to use a strong detergent e.g. Poultry Shield

Red Mite bodies are covered I wax once this is gone the mite can not survive.

Thanks for the replies.  I havn't got RM at the moment, and I don't think the hens have either !!

I might buy a tin anyway on the premiss that if I have it I won't need it!!

I read in some blurb that it is a 'natural' alternative to creosote - so who knows.

I might have to do some experiments - does anyone have any RM that I can borrow!!

When it wet they like to stay (head) for indoors. You may get them sooner.

Do you know what they look like?

The hens or the RM? :}

I've seen the pics on here of the RM, the one with the 5p for comparison is  a good one.

Maybe we're just lucky!!

Will send an update on the experiment.  RM v. Timberguard!!
