anyone know about peanut plants

hi guys ,thanks to mr or mrs squirrel i now have a very healthly  peanut plant { pics later } he or she buried the peanuts i dug them up by mistake as two had rooted so i put them in compost an now i have a plant thats over a foot high but i know nothing about them . i have been told the nuts are under the soil an that the plant will die in the winter i've moved into  the greenhouse that can be heated for when it gets cold . can anyone tell me more aobut them please
