Hatch day advice
« on: September 25, 2009, 10:53 »
Hi all,

Its day 21 with ten eggs in the incubator, one hatched yesterday about nine pm, another this morning and others showing signs of arrival.
How long can I leave the early arrival in the incubator until the rest have caught up, (dried and fluffy), because he looks ready to come out.
Can I open the incubator at this stage to remove him or will that be fatel to the rest.
Any comments would be great !!!

i would leave him in there, he'll be fine for quite a while, don't open the incy as the humidity will drop.

I'm looking for a reliable/cheap incubator for about 6 hens eggs.  I used to have a great big wooden incy that I used to have to hand turn all the goose/hens/ducks eggs with a tray for water, but I only want something small and reliable.  Going to get the eggs early next year but would like to start looking around now please.

This last email about hatching advise has made me all broody for chicks

From everything that i have seen on my google travels, it seems that you should leave him in there :(  48 hours if needs be, before he needs food or water!!  this is such a long time though :(

I find it so hard to not pick them out as they hatch.... especially when they career round the bator, rolling the other eggs out of the way!!!

I am hatching on Sunday, and will nearly die trying to leave them in there!!!
I love Pekins, Polands and Seramas :) and eggs!!!

I never wait until they all hatch, but I would wait until there is more than one fluffy.
This year I have found that most batches are hatching over two days, so I take chicks out in the evening and again in the morning.
