Lost cock-a-doddle-do

Recently I have noticed that my rooster has lost his "crow".  My hens are in molt could them being in molt have anything to do with his lost crow?

Stopping crowing is usually a sign of illness.  How is he looking? (Comb and wattles still red, and turgid?)
