hi,
My chicks are now 13 weeks old, and everything is going well,i am a bit confused about worming and lice powder should these be routine things or only if there is a problem. i have been cleaning the hen house every week and using poultry sheild.they have a covered run. any iadvice would be great.

as far as preventative powders go as in diatom and barrier powders, i do my girls every 6wks, i havnt wormed mine yet as they were done before i got them but i read about 2-3 times a year.    Nickyx

i have started to sprinkle a little stalosan f powder in the run to kill cocci occyst, so hopefully it will keep coccidiosis down. in the coop to kill bacteria.
sprinkle diatom and  louse powder every week, and spray with poultry shield.
poop scoop the coop daily.

I wouldn't over do the poultry shield as the weather cools down, it may not dry out easily, diatom can still be used yr round tho.

Have had to cut down on poultry shield applications, was trying for once a week, but not enough 'drying' days for that.  don't want the girls in a damp coup.  Still using diatom and louse power though every time I renew bedding and nesting.

Still a bit uncertain about how to treat floor of covered run.

Mix of bare earth and wood chips, and poop pick every day.  Should I be doing anything else?  Have heard of various products, eg stalasan and vikron?  but not sure what they do, or in fact, what needs to be done?

So will be watching this post keenly
