hi there! this is my first post here Hello!

I have just been given a few very established asparagus plants from my mum who has dug them up for me as she is moving house.  they are in large soil clumps and look very healthy but i know they can be doifficult to transplant etc.  I havent got enough time to build a raised bed for them as i need to plant them todaybefore they stat to perish - my question is- can i plant them as they are in very large half barrels? would that act as a raised bed? and should i knock off all the dirt from the roots and plant them like it says in the books with roots played etc although this will disturb them more than just planting them as clumps? sorry for the long post but just got given them this morning & was a lovely surprise.  ps ive got an allotment but only got one small raised bed atm filled with salad.

Asparagus doesn't need a raised bed, just decent drainage and not too many weeds,,,,

I'd have thought they'd be ok in barrels, my sown from seed plants wiull be facing this winter from 8" pots. I wouldn't try to crop them next year, let them get established.....
