Honda F510
« on: September 18, 2009, 08:44 »
As the Monrotiller tried hard to demolish it's digger drive last weekend >:(,  I bit the bullet and decided to get modern(ish) and bought an F510 on e-bay last night :), however it comes without wheels, can anyone tell me if all honda wheels are the same mount size/type?

I have a Honda 501 and use all the attachments from my old Merry Tiller.
The wheels, blades, plough etc all fit to a tea with no problems and are
far superior in quality also Honda parts can be expensive.

Hoda F510 uses a hex shaft and not round like the merry tiller.

I don't know if the 500 series is the same as the 400 series but on a scrapped 400 I have ,the shaft is hex but the wheel centres are round.   the drive is applied from the shaft by the contact of the pin which holds the wheel on, if that makes sense  ?

For that money they need to be gold.  The rims are £80 it is the tyres that are the killers (£70+ each), after extensive research by me and a tyre supplier who asked 5 of their suppliers it appears the tyres are a Honda only part.  Honda have neatly stitched up that corner of the market in using an odd wheel size .
I may have to bite the bullet here, lucky me.....

It may alter the speed a little but if there was enough room I would be modding the centre of a wheel barrow or small trailer wheel and fitting some thing like this : http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/400-8-Cleated-Chevron-Rotovator-Tractive-Plant-Tyre_W0QQitemZ390008411984QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Home_Garden_GardenPowerTools_CA?hash=item5ace501750&_trksid=p4634.c0.m14.l1262

smud6ie, I had considered that very thing, 8" trailer rims can be had for less than a tenner each, problem is they are four or five stud and designed to bolt to a hub with bearings in it. I do not suppose it is too hard to get hex tube (A couple of box spanners?) then an adaptor of some type needs made up. Probably not the hardest job in the world and I have the tools to do it, the problem is I cannot actually get to use most of them comfortably as my workshop and sheds are chocka ( I appear to be a bit of a horder ) however it may have to come to that, because that price is plain daft.

As I implied in my earlier post,I don't think the centre tube needs to be hex unless you need to do some very heavy work.If you got some round tube that would just slide on the drive shaft, then drill the tube so that you could put a bolt right through the lot...As I am typing this it has just occured to me that if you have the facillities you could use the same diameter tube, then with the tube on the shaft, position and weld 6 small  pieces of 10mm square bar to the end of it to form the hex .
