Another raspberry cane question?

Hi all, a friend has given me a few raspberry canes, they ve got a rootball, chopped down bits & 2 ft of new cane which look a bit battered, they are supposed to be summer fruiting but have not fruited this year, what shall I do, plant as they are or cut down, any advice appreciated

Thank you, do they need the tops or will they branch out, I'm asking because some of the tops seem to be missing. Cheers DD.
