Could we breed from our existing  birds and  effectively get "F2" hybrids? Please don't laugh at my ignorance, I was wondering if they are like GM corn ! We do already have a new 3240 egg incubator plus hatcher and 20 plus acres of land. You can see we're quite serious and we will find a way past the limits being imposed by our suppliers, one way or another! (Give us the tools..............)

hi coco

i'm in the philippines and we did that years ago. main problem is the breeders will grow very big if you will not control feed intake but it works. progenies are not that uniform but most grow as good as the f1. also, try candling the eggs because a good number are double yolk and the hatchability of these are not high.

you may also try using male cantonese instead as the male line as they dont grow too big. this if you market the progenies as free range since they will grow slower. > theoretical

Am pretty sure the answer is no. You will not produce stock the same as you buy.
Have you tried contacting Hubbard to see if they will supply you with proper breeding stock?

Sorry to butt in, but this thread was started back in Sept 2009.  I wonder how Colin got on with his breeding plans?  I suspect we will never know!

We know the thread was started back then Lineggs, but Aunt Sally thought we could keep it in here as probably rengab didn't look at the dates!

Colin hasn't posted since then as he decided we were all 'hobbyists' and he was talking more commercially.

Hope he did get on okay!
