I was thinking of putting more bean frames up next year, re-think maybe not

I thought Id done too many beans, but luckily we love them, so I now have a good idea of what I need to plant next year...quite by accident!

Just leave them on the vines to mature, then depod and dry out properly and you can have them in soups all winter.

Might be a silly question, how do you freeze your runner beans or pea's, do you just take'em outta pods and freeze or banche them first  ???

If you want to freeze them for more than a few days you should blanch them first, they keep much better and will be good upto 12 months in the freezer.

I haven't done peas but beans, I slice, plunge into boiling water ( not too many at a time) bring back to boil, 2 minutes, then drop them into ice cold water till cold, remove from water and tip onto kitchen towel to dry them and spread onto baking trays( this keeps them nice and loose instead of having 1 lump or 2 lol) and pop in freezer, when frozen knock off trays into freezer bags

It's a horrible job though when you have buckets of the darn things

I'm not as good as Callie and operate on the 'one lump or two' principle.  After chilling I bag them up in 2 person portions.  They do freeze in lumps.  Then when I want them, I pull the right number of bags out and either microwave or steam from frozen, with a number of stirs to break up the lumps as they start to defrost.  Occasionally I defrost first in a sieve over a bowl, but usually not.

Just leave them on, to dry out and you can have them as shelled beans all winter. Like kidney beans.

That what i thought until my wife started cooking them.
Chop an onion and fry in cooking oil in a big pan
Add a tin of tomatoes and tomato puree
Couple of cloves of garlic (chopped up)
Juice of a lemon, tiny bit of cinamon and cumin
season with salt and pepper
Add runner bean stringed and chopped into 2" pieces
Put the lid on the pan boil up and then simmer for about an hour until beans are soft.
Really really delicious  :)
You can also fry up some diced lamb or chicken thighs/legs and stick them in for a whole meal.
All these moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain.

I don't boil ours for half that long.

I can't get enough runner beans. We even have them with fish and chips.
