How are your outdoor tom's doing, are they outside yet? inside itching to get out? or still hardening off, or even still in the packet?

Good thread :)

Mine are hardening off at the moment, I nearly left them out all night last night, but I just couldn't do it..   It was a real love moment...

and then hubby said, "its a clear night, with a full moon, quite a risk of frost you know"  and I started scurrying them back into the safety of their greenhouse.

Nope still growing snug and warm in the greenhouse it won't be for another week or two before they start being toughened up. Even though I can just see the first trusses forming

I've person half a dozen on the back yard, they were just getting to big to stay on the window sil anymore - they've been out for over a week now and appear to happy, I've got more upstairs which are going out today and some teeny ones which I planted a week or so ago, I don't think I will be putting them in the ground though until the end of the month - just in case

Got mine in the cold frame getting really hard as this year I am going to see if they will do battle with the couch grass as it says in the book.

The Allotment Book, Andy Clevely. He reckons that the roots of outdoor toms poison couch grass so I have kept a small area ready to try his theory.

I put some out on Saturday they were just too big for the window sill.  I still have some more inside so if anything happens to them I still have enough plants to go on with.

At the moment they seem to be okay and look healthier than when they were inside.

As a newby I've been told to plant some toms in an uncultivated grassland area. :?
Will they be OK if I make 4 holes with the Pogo stick (Thats what we call the long handled bulb planter) and put a Tomato plant in each with a little compost and water.
Any advice gratefully received :D

Put my toms out last week, they were getting enormous.  I got a bit carried away with early sowing because last year I got only green toms they were planted out so late so thought I'd get an extra month on them this year.  They are fine and have grown at least another 4-5" since planted out.

I don't think the competition of uncultivated grass will do them any favours  :!:
