Help please............
« on: September 06, 2009, 19:45 »
Hi

Can anyone help please - I have lost my DG Hessayon book (somewhere between the lottie and home) and need some help with the following as I have never grown either before

1. Pumpkins - all ripe and harvested - what is the best way/place to store them

2. Sweetcorn - how do I know when to harvest - one cob seems to be fairly large others following shortly behind - but  haven't got a clue what to do and when. Do cut have to cut or pull them off - really know nothing about them at all.

Any help gratefully appreciated - thanks very much

Cheers

According to the doc.  Pumpkins - allow to ripen on the vine, cut before first frost and store in a cool room indoors.  Sweetcorn - pull back part of the sheath and squeeze between thumb and fingernail.  If the liquid is watery it's unripe, if it's creamy it's ripe.  Carefully twist off the cob from the stem.
Cheese makes everything better.
