What are you planting MORE of next year then?
« on: September 06, 2009, 18:53 »
To follow on from DevonDave and Dig4victorys excellent threads....

Mine is
1. Spuds - loved growing them this year. Every large forkful felt like I was digging treasure (yes I need a life I know...or some actual treasure)
2. Peas - well a girl can never get enough eh Dave?
3. Lettuce at home - got cross with myself that I had a ton at the plot and couldnt get to it for my cheese butty at lunchtime
4. Parsnips and carrots - love that I can swan past these in the supermarket
5. Sprouts - not a great success this year, but the ones Ive had are fab

Over to you (coz i may get some ideas  ;) _

I am going to grow more garlic and onions definitely.  Only did spring planted red onions this year but will do red and white next year.  Will overwinter garlic and onions again but more of both definitely!

Just peas.

Got more than enough of everything else, but always run out of peas.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Problem will be either the need for more ground or making even better use of the space I have........and that might be difficult.

Alternatively something will have to go  :( or be reduced.

I think the onion crop might not be so larger next year as I am aiming for more peas. They were very successful this year  :) (my first serious effort with them) and the onions are attracting progressively more white rot  :( I may decide to reduce the number of elephant garlic I grow as they are not a great favourite with us.... most are eaten by my sister and her family. I grew them for the novelty as much as anything.

So its out with the onions and the elephant garlic (all but a few) and loads more peas....then there's more brassicas all round... I've invested in some debris netting which I will put in place before planting to keep some of the nasties out.  :)

Gladioli are going to make their way into the flower beds at home.... that'll save cutting them and lugging them home too  :)

More french beans and mange tout, but with staggered plantings next year to avoid a glut then nothing.

More parsnips.

That will have to do otherwise I'll be running out of space even quicker than this year!

More Chillis!
I harvested these Habs from a couple of plants today, and am so pleased. I'll be growing lots more next year, together with sweet peppers. Mrs B thinks they'll be in the greenhouse.... :nowink: :nowink: I have plans for the conservatory! ;)

Yes, that was my problem. I grew a couple of plants just to see how they got on. That little lot won't last 3 months. :nowink: I think 9-12 plants will do it, Jalapenos, habaneros and 1 or 2 others?? I did OK with Californian wonders (sweet) last year so will try a dozen of those too. (We eat load of 'em)  :D
What have you grown Pea?

Got hot apache (cant remember the full name) - 9 plants (hot)
praire fire - 2 plants (really really hot)
Jalapenos - 1 plant - green so not sure yet
4 other plants of inderterminate name as my lotty mate gave them to me - green and not too hot yet

Green are great for Harry ,and the really hot ones are great for Chris and the other boys.  The apache and the prairie fire are tiny plants but lethal, so great(I hope) for overwintering, and Ive still got some seeds left from last year if overwintering doesnt work
Id highly recommend them
