My 2nd choice after Bambino....... they are equally (almost ) as lovely....and have the advantage of being larger so quicker to pick!  ;)

Try Tigerella. The stripey one.

Very tangy/sharp citrus flavour. Crops well.

I did this year! I agree it crops well but still in the NO TASTE brigade, shan't try again :(

Tode, you might want to try Jaune Flamme, a larger than cherry sized tom that's orange and has a sharp burst of flavour. Originally from France, it should suit your garden just fine. It really produces.

What is wrong with toms in the fridge? I have always done it, my mother and my Nan too!

I do not know anyone that 'doesn't' put toms in the fridge! Keeps them for longer.

I pick mine in smallish batches and they are kept on the windowsill and stay fresh for more than a week.  They have much more flavour out of the fridge.

Thanks Trillium: how do you compare it with other "standard" varieties?

"Tode, you might want to try Jaune Flamme,"

Can you get hold of this in the UK?

Has anyone got some seed that they are willing to swop seed for my large fruited 'Yugoslavian' which came from the Heritage Seed Library?

Cheers,

Gillie

"All depends what your Yugoslavian tomatoes taste like"

We think the flavour is excellent, they are thin skinned and surprisingly early for a large fruited (say 3 to 4 inches across) variety - ripening at the same time as Gardener's Delight in the greenhouse this year.

Their drawback is that after a good first and second truss they tend not to crop too well.

Anyway, that is the way they perform for us, in a different environment they may behave differently but we think they are worth a try.

Cheers,

Gillie

Its a bit smaller than  gardener's delight, but bigger than cherry tomatoes yet clusters like cherry toms; its a very heavy yielder and you'd need a 2x2x8 for proper support, it can get that heavy (as John found out ). It has a tangy, sharp flavour that's nice, just need a touch of salt, no dressings at all. And it's orange. Its very dependable.

Not sure of sources in the UK, but its under heritage varieties if you have sources of those. In France, it should be easily available.

Trillium: Ah, now that's starting to sound like what I'm after   :tongue2:  :tongue2:

I'm not too worried by the size, although starting to get a bit tired of picking my cherry toms.

I presume they grow well in the snow   ;)

Almost. Believe it or not the plants keep yielding until hard frost. Light frost doesn't slow them down much.

Gillie:  I'm not worried about the quantity: rather have less and enjoy it, rather than .... WYKWIM.

You wern't looking for Honesty seeds, by any chance ?
