You're welcome Feeb, its horrible when we hear of people losing animals to foxes and other predators, but if we all put our tips and ideas on here, then you pick out what you want, or don't want!!!   :D

I tried to put a photo on here last night of what Brian did just in case I didn't explain myself properly, but it wouldn't let me. I'll try again, just to see if it does let me this time!!

Nope, won't let me put photo on!!  darn  :(

Seriously because of this website our chickens are going to be well protected!

it would be a very very cunning fox who would get in there, i would find it next to impossible to get in it and i am a human!

its great...

so - anyone want some mesh?? xx

here are the latest bunch, we have nearly finished it now but i have just sold me camera to a lovely man... i will have a new one in a few weeks but will endeavour to borrow a small one for a couple of days so i can show off the finshed run and the chickens settling in :)

me doing some work :)

Liam wiring the roof panels together

Perches for the birds :) there is another matching one on the other side too

How we have connected to the cement wall, using washers and wall plugs (and a blooming big drill!)

Liam attaching the wire mesh to the wood dug under the ground, we dug 1 foot down and connected the mesh, there is no way a fox is getting under there!

Liam again <wub>

Liam looking a bit bemused :)

Hi Feeb. Pleased to see it coming on so well. And no fox is going to get through there. :D

Only comment is on the perch. They like to perch on something a bit wider. About 2 to 3" (50-75mm) wide, flat on top with rounded edges. If you can get a piece of 3x2 and chamfer/round the top corners off, that would be perfect. :)

Okies, well i will do my best to get that sorted asap for them then... might have to spend a bit of tomorrow afternoon woodhunting for a perfect perch!  then when the ladies have to go to bed we can have a better on installed

ours looks similar to this though

LINK

but i am happier to improve it in a hurry if its an emergency and at the weekend if its not

What do you think?

Please also remember that the exbatts may not want to roost (as they will have been penned up for all their short lives), some people lift them on each night until they get the idea and others let them sleep in their nest boxes as they feel they deserve to do what they want  :)
Staffies are softer than you think.

Feeb - could you please not post such long links, they have made the page go off screen, including the modify control buttons.

Only admin can fix this, so we're stuck until they log on.

If you are unsure about how to downsize them, please ask.

Thanks.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

If you look at a chicken's foot, you'll see that the sole is very scaley and padded and they only grip with their claws. If the perch is narrow and/or shiny, tey can't grip and will find it difficult to hold on.
They may then start sleeping in the nest boxes which can be difficult to correct once they get in the habit. It won't hurt for a few days/nights. :)

Cool thank you, its just Liam has been working pretty much around the clock for about two weeks now so i would like for him to not have to rush to do anything else - we have a few kinks to sort out as far as the chooks go but it can be a work in progress

Thank you so much for the advice x

looking good feebs, it's so much more involved that you realise it's going to be, my hubby took two weeks to build the coop alone  :D

Same here. I spent Christmas and New Year doing ours. I was proud of it afterwards though.  :)

I think Liam might be getting the first egg. ::)

Yes Liam is definatly in the good books!  The two battery chickens are here now though we had a mix up with the other breeder :(  I will be picking the rest up tonight which should mean they should all be asleep in the coop together and come out in the morning together.

The battery chickens were very ill when they came off the farm so they have been looked after by another lady for a few weeks

they are fine now and enjoying the grass and pecking about :)

I have just been watching them for HOURS :) :)
