I have been reading through past threads but can't quite get a full answer.  I have very fresh horse manure, which a friend is delivering to me in plastic builder's sacks.  I have stacked them on my allotment ready for rotting.  My question is, do I take the manure out of the bags and allow it to rot down in a heap - perhaps covered with plastic, or will it rot merrily away in the plastic bags it is already in?

Hi Libby, personally I would empty it out of the plastic bags and make a heap, you can turn it once in a while as well, maybe even add peelings and cardboard bits to it

Sue is right,also the bigger the pile,the hotter it gets ,the quicker it rots.
