Where to place my greenhouse on my new plot
« on: September 01, 2009, 08:14 »
I've recently been given a plot but don't know the best place to put my shed, greenhouse and compost heap.

I have to fit it all in to a quarter plot (22ftx32ft)

Is there a best place for them to go ?

Greenhouse is 8ftx6ft, the shed is the same, and the compost heap is about 3ftx6ft.

on the south side of the plot is my neighbours plot, which is a little overgrown and he has his compost heap there.

was thinking of placing my shed and compost heap along this boarder, and perhaps placing the greenhouse more towards the middle.

In October I'll be given an additional quarter plot immediately to the west (adjoining) of my plot, I would of preferred to place everything up that end of the plot but as I have the greenhouse etc now I can't.

Any ideas ?

The plan below shows my existing plot (yellow)
my additional plot in October (grey)
east of the plot is a road, west and south is the neighbours plot, the north is a small footpath then another plot.

conventional thought is ( i think ) put the spine east west. I have the door facing east which has been useful as it it stops things blowing in  eg tomato blight!!!
I would personally put it as far away from the road as possible.

All these moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain.

Would put shed on N boundary so as not to shede a part of plot.
If glass GH, keep it away from road, yes.

Thanks both for your replies  :)

I should of mentioned that the road is actually on the allotment site, so the traffic will only be slight and slow, but I wont be placing the greenhouse there anyway.

Going to pick the shed up just now, then off to my allotment to look around and see how everyone else has done theirs.

Only problem is, most of the other allotments are full size ones and have their sheds and greenhouses at the end, mine is going to look out of place wherever I put them.

You could place shed on bricks temporarily, and move to W side afterwards ....
