Hello all.

I have to dump all my swedes due to them being eaten into or rotting from the leaf base.  Any ideas why this may be. Another 2 allotment holders on our site have had the same problem.

I can't remember which family the swede is in, but could it be one of the root flies e.g. carrot or cabbage?

I have not come across this before so I had a google. Could be 'soft rot'. The foliage collapses. May be due to the wet conditions. Your soil need to be well drained and do not overmanure. Cannot find anymore than that.

Swede usually grows well in wet conditions. Were they just rotten, or were there holes from something eating into them?
