Hen in warm bath
« on: August 26, 2009, 16:20 »
I have heard that if your hen is egg bound that a warm bath can sometimes help.  Our hen that had the prolapse is looking better but now I think she might be egg bound (don't blame her really).  I have never done the bath thing and wonder how you do it - might sound like a silly question.

I was going to find a bucket or such like -make sure it is clean put some warmish water into it and dunk the hens bottom half in it.  How long should you dunk for is it just a quick in and out, will she try to escape or do they like it?

Never done it my self but I think it's a case of sitting them in it for a while ???

I'll have a search see what I can find :)

Haven't felt an egg yet but she is resting on the perch at the mo, was just going to have a feel, she is very swollen in teh nether regions from what I can see, of course it maybe an infection resulting from the prolapse and tear (another post) in which case I think it is going to be the great nest box in the sky unfortunately, shame she was doing so well.  Thanks for the link.

No not egg bound just very big poo!  Rather egg like in consistency, but she has been under the weather for the last few days and hasn't eaten much, going to give her some oyster shell now (when she stops stuffing her face with corn and meal worm and mash!).

Bottom end nice and soft so don't think there is anything in there that shouldn't be. :)
