tThis year I got a crop of carrots by growing them in a bath, but I was about to chuck in the towel on them too.

Hang on a bit...... my broccoli is as tall as small trees - as usual. I'm not expecting any "crop" until February. Once they get going the taste is worth the waiting and the space. Truly delicious.

The netting cover proves it - if the pigeons love it then it must be good!  ;)

I cut the bunches of small purple buds and leaves off the tops of 2 of my triffid (6') psb plants today and can only hope they'll resprout. Didn't want them flowering!
I steamed  the psb, put a bit of butter on and we passed the bowl round. Everyone (including all the kids) said they were the bestest greens they'd ever had! Not bad for first attempt!
Can't wait for more!

Seems early but I guess it depends on variety. My PSB normally not ready until after Christmas but have had one in flower since September - eaten!!  ;)

Purple Sprouting Brocolli is not being grown next year.
Sorry, too long to wait and too much space taken up.
Also basically not what I want, could see that I will get either very few spears or all at once. :D

So I have just uprooted the ones I had and introduced them to the shredder

They came out nice and fine, ideal for the compost heap. :tongue2: :tongue2: :tongue2:

I agree with you - it is a really slow growing crop and they do take up a huge space on a plot but the taste makes up for it.... so mine will be staying again despite having my doubts last year.

wont be growing onions from sets again, after growing from seed the last two years, the seed sown onions are far superior.
I used to work in a helium gas factory, but I walked out, no one talks to me like that.

Not growing peas not one pod made it from the plant to the kitchen. grew 8 plants and got about 20 pods in total followed by mildew. Sprouts leaves like lace this time so either not bothering or improving the netting. Successional sowing of spring onions waste of time got half a dozen maybe all year. Other things could be better and i need more patience with beetroot and carrots.

My first lot of peas put me off the idea - tried again after not growing for a couple of years and........ great results.

Worth having a go another time.....maybe  ;)
