This afternoon the banty who is sitting on 7 Maran eggs let me have a quick look and there are now 2 perfect little maran chicks - great excitement in the household as they are the first we have hatched - we usually buy day olds - these are safe as they will enjoy a long life with us and are not for the freezer

Oh thta's wonderful James. OH wants to get day olds and get a gas brooder, which we can't really afford to run, but when I mention Munty's way of using a bantam as a brooder, he poo poos the idea. Would be chepaer though and they are supposed to be good Mum's aren't they??
