split butternut squash
« on: August 22, 2009, 12:03 »
I've lovingly looked after my biggest butternut only to find today there is a vertical split in it  :( . What should I do? is it to late? will it be edible? I thought about putting some duck tape over the split if there's nothing else to be done.

Whip it off & eat the good bits. You can't mend it and rot infection will set in.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

I`ve had one split as well, first one after several years of growing them. On mine the split is at the top and has calloused over in the sun, like DD said it`s not going to keep for any length of time so eat it asap.
