I've gone and done it now

I went to the farmers supplies place and bought 5kg of mustard seed to do green manure. Guess which section the seed was in? It was with the shooting stuff ::) no wonder I couldn't find it I was looking with the seeds, silly me

Is there a rule of thumb for planting density? Handful to a square metre?

There probably is a specific measure but I just take a handful of seed and try to sprinkle it evenly but not thickly as I go along. Perhaps its a bit wasteful but its all for a good reason so in my opinion, justifiable. The key is to get it out there and preferably before a rain.

Thanks Trillium, I'm going to put it where the potatoes have been lifted and where they will be next year to help with the wire worm problem as well as to improve the soil. Our soil goes solid and flat on top in the rain so I think this will improve things.

I think you have enough seed for about 1 acre.

This website tells you how to do it. 2grams per square metre.
