Rats have eaten all my sweetcorn!!!
« on: August 17, 2009, 21:04 »
We've been having a problem with rats on our allotment recently,my neighbour had about ten full plants eaten on saturday night .His plot backs directly onto  the river &he also keeps chickens. He told me to keep an eye on mine over the next few days.I bought some traps to the plot this evening but i was too late. A block of 12 full grown plants 3/4 stripped.Iv'e already had about 8-9 massive cobs up till now & theres about another 8 half size cobs left on the plants.
  Gutted :(

Not sure if you're serious about that teflon, but you do need to make sure you have the permission of the land owner before you start shooting anything.

Yes, i'm one of 5 plotholders that have the written permission of the  chairman &secretery &we're all insured by either BASA or BASC.
Thats one of the advantages of having no other buildings, public footpaths near us,just lots of fields. I actually took my rifle with me this evening and shot a fat woodpigeon which we cooked on the bbq. It was delicious. :)

Not as many as i'd like .I'm a member of a shoot that covers 650 acres on which i use p.c.p. air rifle &12 bore shotgun.Although i some times manage to get the odd pheasant, its mainly rabbit &woodpigeon.

hope to see a thread entitled "Rat cumupence" soon - mind doubt if you will have the egg on the plate  ;)
All these moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain.

I baited them with home cooked tandoori chicken wings (leftover from saturday nights bbq). The rats must have a liking for spicy food 'cos today the traps near the sweetcorn  all had dead rats in them, with one measuring about 18 inches from head to tail.
