I have had a few big ones that are a really rich dark orange colour. The girls don't seem to like them though.

I was tatting about trying to get the run finished (failed) this evening and there was a right cafuful, one of my girls was running all over the place with a freshly murdered mouse in her beak closely followed by her 3 chums all wanting a piece of the action.

My big hens wont touch slugs..... but the silkies have been scoffing the greeny leopardy slugs that were in a tarpaulin today.  The slugs were the size of their heads, and they just ran around the pen with them in their beaks!!!
I love Pekins, Polands and Seramas :) and eggs!!!

My really poorly ex-bat still picked up a mealworm and ran with it a day after coming out so the instinct is there. They all refuse to eat caterpillars though! Nic.

lol, most caterpillars are quite hairy so that may be the reason.
also the colouring, mine will chase flies, but run from wasps and bees...

Mine haven't encountered slugs yet, but do keep eyeing up the small snails on the fence, and you can just hear them thinking "hmmmmmm......"
As for worms, I throw them a few and some of them just look, walk away and tread right over them! The others gobble them up instantly.

For a real treat I gave them an ants nest last week, which was in an old bucket of compost (ex-plant from last year) - just tipped it out and they loved it, ate every scrap of ant, larvae, the lot. It occupied them for hours too, they had such fun!

Got several more of these buckets, so every now and then they'll get one for a treat  :)

I was digging in the run this morning and passed some juicy worms to the Welsummer chicks - their first - they knew EXACTLY what to do with them, it was bedlam in there

Amanda, now see what you started  ;)  My girls had a treat this evening, they discovered bright green grasshoppers.  The poor things didn't stand a chance.  It reminded me of piranha fish devouring food
