Sneaky egg laying!
« on: August 13, 2009, 20:31 »
Well!!  I knew it was about time my new(ish) girls started to lay as I had asked around and it should be about now, so every day I would 'Open the box' excitedly wanting to see a shiny new mini tinted bantam size egg in there.  No such luck for ages and ages and AGES!  Or so it felt.  Then today my Jacob lost his marbles (like you do!) under the rabbit hutch, and not only did he reach under and find his marbles (lucky him-mine are gone forever!)  but also 3 delightful little bantam tinted eggs too!

The girls are going to now spend the next few days trapped/penned/imprisoned if you like in the teeny tiny run attached to the hen house!  I don't care if they sulk and scream at me, they are staying put until the silly moo's learn that it is nothing to be embarrassed about and much more comfy doing it in their lovely sweet smelling straw lined nest box.  Also, they may feel reassured that the nasty bossy old Warrens won't come in and scare them, steal their grub and peck their lovely partridge wyndotte feathers.

Just had to share that with you , my fellow hen lovers.  Over and out!

Ha! When I cam back from hols my father in law said he wasn;t sure what was wrong with the hens as he had been collecting only one egg a day. He clearly had not looked under the ivy around the base of the tree in their run.
