Slugs likes and dislikes?
« on: August 13, 2009, 15:05 »
Hi

Is there a list anywhere suggesting the seedlings that definitely will be or not be attacked by slugs?

I've just transplanted winter cabbages and swede and wondered if they needed little blue pellets round.  Rather not use them if it's avoidable.

Cheers

Nick

no,  not into spending money.  that amongst other things in the point of having the plot.

what would be good is if there's a list out there that suggests the crops that are most liked by our dear dear friends...

I've found lambs lettuce seems to be ignored by slugs and is even left unscathed in otherwise decimated beds, you can even sow some now for autumn/winter salad leaves.

Theyve left my onions and garlic alone

But im more than tempted to say
1. Love - my veg
2. Hate - my weeds

They haven't touched my celeriac, parsnips, Swiss chard, courgettes or sugar snap peas. Everything else is getting completely laced  despite slug pubs, midnight searches, organic pellets AND keeping chickens that can freerange the garden and round the raised beds. Who said chickens liked slugs? They might eat the small ones but the huge monsters are too slimy and tough! ::)  Mind you...if they eat all the small ones and the eggs there might not be so many next year? ;)
