Help please!! We have two poorly chickens
« on: August 10, 2009, 22:11 »
Can somebody help please, I am new to keeping chickens and this is my first experince of poorly girls.

They have diarrehea, a runny light brown colour, have tried Vermex as I thought it might be worms but still situation does not appear to have improved. They are not laying eggs but are running around and eating ok, feathers still nice and glossy. This applies to two out of my five. Many thanks for any help.

Hi Bud. Welcome  :)

Verm-x is quite a gentle herbal wormer and is not effective against all types of worms. We normally recommend Flubenvet which is far more effective and treats for gapeworm.

How old are they and are their combs all a good red colour ?

Welcome Bud!!

Are you sure they are poorly?  They sound pretty healthy from what you say apart from the runny poo.  Can you see anything similar on here?

I always worried about poo until Aunt Sally put these pictures on here.

Hope you are worrying needlessly!!!!

It's a very good chart and I still refer to it whenever I find a different pooh from my girlies and boys (usually it is in the ceacal range)
Staffies are softer than you think.

Thanks All for the prompt advice! and links to the "Poo Page"!!!! Will have a closer look tommorow!!!

They are around 6 months old, the combs are nice and red but this is the first time they have not layed for over a week. Maybe I am worrying too much?

I refer to the poo page constantly, and think we've had every one on offer, apart from thankfully the abnormal ones.
Ours seemed a bit runny at the weekend, but today, huge firm dollops....... ::) :tongue2: You'd think a small horse had been in there!
