Sowing corgettes - how late?
« on: August 07, 2009, 23:21 »
I planted what I thought were corgettes a few months ago now and they have turned out to be bush marrow (yellow things).

I have a few proper corgette seeds from last year which were good fruiters once established. Its early August - does anyone fancy my chances of getting a decent crop from these before the first frosts?

Cornwall's winter comes late, so I am just going to sow and have a go.

No, no.

Then again. No.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Thrice no?

Sorry Zippy, far too late from seed, but you may be very lucky and get plants from a GC

Give it a whirl!  I bet the seeds germinate double quick in the warm soil and we may  have a lovely Indian summer with stuff growing well into October.

Cheers,

I emptied my compost heap onto a new flower bed in September and got a self seeded courgette. Had quite a few fruits before the frost got it, so go for it.

You can always chuck an upside down clear plastic storage box over the top, with perhaps some straw around the plant - nearer the first frost time to give it a few days longer.....weeks maybe down in cornwall.

No chance of that sort of behaviour up here, says she who just this afternoon planted out onions from seed to go under a cloche with straw for the winter.......
