Some of my hunter butternuts look like this as well  they look like little butternuts at flowering stage and then seem to change shape a bit after pollination. Maybe they will change shape again before they're ripe :D

Most butternuts are a yellow/green with a thin end and a thick end, yours seems to be greeny/green with two thick ends*.

Are these the BBC dig in seeds ? Mine are looking as they should and trying to take over the world. :)

*similar to marrow  :D

Not sure what it is exactly, but it's NOT a marrow!
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

There's that many different squashes & I'm not an expert on them! Bog standard butternut does me!

I do grow marrows and I know one when I see one!

That is exactly what i was trying to decribe for my hunter............makes you wonder doesn't it.
I think several complaining letters may be on their way if they don't turn out right in the end

With butternut squash you often get  short squat  ones so they are unlikely to change shape. Quite often these ones grow bigger than the 'proper' shaped ones so its not a bad thing. :)

I had around 6 plants last year and all did really badly because of the weather. I only had 3 fruits, 2 Butternut Squash like but quite small and the best one size wise was similar to the one in your photo. These were meant to be Hunter.  Dont know whether its a problem with the gene and they revert to type or a problem in the factory and some other seeds get mixed in but it did look more like a marrow or courgette.

Didnt end up eating it.
Are you looking for an allotment (full or to share) in South East Sheffield. PM me for details.
