I hadn't realized how much he liked em  :D

So no photo

lifted yesterday weighed in at 360lbs, lifted using a sheet one on each corner.
Given to the children at the local school to play with and cut a face in.  Get ready for next year now. I Will probably have some spare seed if interested let me know. Sorry but first come first served. Wont send it until end of February.

I would love some of these seeds please! I grew turks turbans and pumpkins on the raised bit (for drainage) at the end of our patch, and it was lovely to hear people's comments on them (we have a footpath through our lottie). (comments were mainly - "aww, what happened to your pumpkins?", with me answering "they're turks turban squashes, they're supposed to look like that....": so it would be great to nurture a giant one for people to marvel at! what did you feed yours on? love the fact you've given it to the school - that's great!

Repeat piccie, I know, but just be warned pumpkins easily cross with any adjacent cucurbit., you may not get what you expected.

Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

But was it still edible, and did you cook it or eat it raw? :nowink:

It was a plant I gave to a neighbour.

He says he ate the fruit, but I keep forgetting to ask him in which form!

The plant was a pumpkin/marrow cross.

Taking some veggies to a friend in a flat in London. She pays a fortune for organic veg. She'll love mine, all covered in muck still smelling of Autumn on the plot.

A lovely veg selection.  You're a better friend than me, I would have taken it home and eaten it  :tongue2:.

We had a lovely sunday roast yesterday with spuds that we found on our new lottie, some swiss chard that a neighbouring plot holder offered me, as well as parsnip and some jerusalem atrichokes from my own garden.  Yummy!

Hello.

This is my first "daily harvest" post.

What excitement today!  First potatoes!

We only took on the site in August (previously grazing and not been dug before), and as a punt I put in a row of potatoes (Maris Peer) August Bank Holiday weekend, hoping we might get some new pots for Christmas.
Dug up some today and they look fabulous!

It might not look like much of a harvest but small beginnings and all that...!

Looking forward to Christmas dinner now. :tongue2:

Here's daughter no. 1 with her "haul" - potatoes, beetroot (her favourite), baby carrots and turnips.

I harvested some radishes today - and they are pretty darn big!

The varieties are:
  • Pink Beauty
  • Rosa 2

And 4 beetroot, though not sure what variety.

Does anyone how I should best store them for 3-6 weeks?

Thanks
Simon

the radishes might be woody if they're last years

I'd eat the beets now

Agree with CQ - if the beets aren't woody, you could pickle 'em".

Managed to get down yesterday to my plots, I've been chiseling out of the frozen wastes just enough to keep us ticking over, this time it was on with my Christmas present, (fleece lined wellies), to face the quagmire.

Well worth it- Big bag of sprouts, January King Cabbage, Savoy cabbage, 2 humungous parsnips, bag of carrots, 20 leeks (leek & spud soup coming up), some very early PSB and one grotty half hearted swede. (We've eaten the two big ones the whole row produced).

Last of the parsnips today plus some jerusalem artichokes and a little cabbage.

We have a few cabbages (without hearts) left, some kale and artichokes (they never run out!!!).
