Shirley F1 Toms
« on: August 06, 2009, 06:33 »
Hi my Shirley F1 Toms are going great and look really healthy.
But, the fruit just aren't ripening! I have got some lovely trusses with really nice fruit on them which are a good size but they are staying green!. I am watering and feeding and they are in a Greenhouse

Never really grown Toms before, anything you can advise me on to get them green or is it just a case of waiting.

Throw some banana skins or over - ripe bananas into the greenhouse. These give off ethelyne gas wich hastens ripening.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Now that we have had a couple of warmer days things are speeding up, and I have some ripe toms now ... bit of a slow start this year

My Shirley toms are the same.   Just managed to get four good ones ripe for our show last weekend.  The rest are starting to turn now. They're good toms when ripe so hang in there
