Have some cucumbers growing outside, was going well, first time doing them have been gherkin size for two weeks or so but have made no progress.

Also is the little white prickly bits more a defensive don't touch addition to cucumbers?lol

Outside cucs do have a prickly skin..a bit like courgettes stems (ouch)

They may be gherkin size because of this weather..give them as long as you dare the sun to last this year

Make sure they are well watered and fed.  I use tomato fertiliser for them.

Absolutely, Sally - mine looked like they had stalled - tried a bit of tomato feed on 'em and I swear a few of them grew an inch nearly yesterday! (Of course the sun probably helped too...)
