probably a daft red mite question
« on: August 04, 2009, 09:18 »
I was just reading the egloo red mite thread and thought of a question for when the little b*****s get round to paying us a visit. Obviously cleaning the coop and treating it will get rid of them from there but do they live on the chickens or just visit them for a tasy snack? Do the birds need to be treated as well? Sorry if it is a daft one, just prepering for it.
a mum is for life..not just for cleaning! ;@)

Its not a daft question at all. You never get rid of redmite you just have to control it the best you can and the red mite feed on the birds blood at night.

I treat my birds with Ivermec which you can get from your vet and you drop it onto the birds skin at the back of the neck it does help.  I also rub my perches with fresh garlic cloves(they hate garlic......redmite that is!) use red mite powder anything I can really.
